The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon is right around the corner (June 3-5). Even if you’re not a marathon runner, the event might inspire you to get out and hit the trails for a leisurely stroll, brisk walk or easy jog.

Here are our picks for the top trails to try in San Diego.

Balboa Park: With 1,200 acres of grass, three miles of paved footpaths and 4.5 miles of dirt trails, there is something for nearly everyone at this city gem.

Torrey Pines State Park: This prize park in the Jewel City boasts eight miles of dirt trails overlooking the coast.

Los Pensaquitos Canyon: A popular destination for hikers, runners and bikers, this area has wide fire roads, as well as narrow single track. If you’re willing to go three miles in, you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful (and refreshing!) waterfall.

Mission Trails Regional Park: There are tons of trails in this 5,800-acre desert park. Be sure to pack the sunscreen and water!
